Penders 1659 Census

This “census” was probably taken during Petty’s survey between December 1654 and the year 1659. It details the names of the large estate owners and the numbers of Protestants and Catholics in each parish. The original clan names are also noted with the numbers of individuals of that surname.

One Response to Penders 1659 Census

  1. Robert Hails Candler says:

My history goes back to Lt. Col. William Candler of Northhampton County, England. He was granted the Castle of Callan somewhere around 1648 and married Anne, widow of Captain John Villier. I am interested in pursuing the history of my family with the view of a possible trip to Ireland later this year or early next spring. If you have any knowledge that would be helpful to me in my search for my ancestors, I would be grateful to you. Thank you in advance. Robert Hails Candler Jr.
